Yesterday I watched the video with Matt Cutts explaining the Canonical Tag on Web Pro News, and that it will be employed by all of the three search engine giants – Yahoo, Google and Microsoft.
What struck me is probably the different opinions in the comments of the above post and how Google and the other two SE’s are missing the point – my own opinion. How can the “cesspool” be cleaned up while the Canonical Tag only gives the possibility to avoid duplicate content indexed on your own sites. And what about all the scrapers and thieves of content – being the 1st and biggest cause of duplicate content online? Why haven’t the Big 3 addressed this problem to begin with?
Would love to hear your opinions and will you start implementing the Canonical Tag any time soon?
