Home-made LCD Projector 8′ HD TV / Computer Monitor

Author: Administrator | Files under Operating Systems

I never said this was a how-to video. It would be duplicated effort. Check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7lWqKHpGuc&NR=1 if you want to learn how to build one yourself. Their project looks to be very similar to what I did.

Cost: under $200. Make an 8 foot screen TV / computer monitor from old computer parts and an overhead projector. The projector is higher wattage (brighter) and the screen has more pixels (sharper) than a standard computer projector so overall I’m quite satisfied with the way this project turned out. The higher wattage bulb is bright enough for a clear daytime picture but it also raises your electric bill and puts out a lot of heat. I taped a quiet CPU fan on top to keep the screen cool. It just blows across the top surface of the screen, nothing fancy.

Operating system: Fedora Linux $Free
Computer: Junk AMD 1GHz O/C to 1.4 GHz (upgraded to 2200+) $40. (It came conveniently with a vintage ATI All-In-Wonder R200 TV/video card)
Monitor: Generic LCD (WXGA?) 14″ $20
Projector: Used OHP re-wired $50
Screen: Letter-size paper sheets and lots of scotch tape.

    some overhead …
some overhead projectors comes with the fan installed on them.depending what kind of use they are built for.if u get one without the fan most likely u will, then fine.just but a desktop cooling fan sold seperate @ a pc hardwear supply.then all u do is find a power supply that match the voltage need to power up the fan.9-12 v dc adaptor.

Thanks for the tip, too bad i’ve already taken apart the 15″ LCD i bought from ebay lol. It works fine but it’s turning out to be a right pain in the i’ve had to order a ffc extender which has cost me around £30 because of stupidly high postage fees. Any way thanks for the tip.

    You won’t see the …
You won’t see the fine detail of this screen because the resolution of youtube video is only 320×280. Most computer monitors and projectors have better resolution than a TV, unless you’ve got one of those high-end 1080p units for which broadcasts don’t seem to exist.
