What books I should read to know more about operating systems? How to build it up after you get the source ?

I’ve already download source codes about some Linux operating systems but I don’t know how to run it.

Each distribution’s website has guided instructions on how to install their specific version. And trust me, you don’t want to try to build your own operating system.
