What the best CPU for a gaming computer system, dual core or quad core?

If you want to save a few bucks, playing are current/older games and you are not worried about upcoming games go with a Dual Core CPU. If however, you want to future proof your purchase than go with a Quad Core CPU. There are upcoming games that will utilize all four cores.

    There are motherboards that can hold up to.. I think 32 processors. But they are for servers… my dad has got a dual Xeon e5440, I’ve seen it and it’s really cool.

    Of course, yes, the SKULLTRAIL can work with 2 Intel Xeon processors, but It costs like a car xD!! It costs many money, I prefer Core I7, because it uses DDR3 Memory on triple channel.

    NOW THERES 4 ON 1 CHIP=quad core!

    Cores are just the technology on the CPU that helps it handle processes. Each core handles processes like data being sent back and forth. Processes and tasks get done much quicker with say, a quad core CPU (4 cores working together) than a computer with one or two cores.

    When I run Bioshock …
    When I run Bioshock 2 with mi core 2 quad, it uses the 4 cores (or it`s my imagination?? xD) I say because I saw it in the taskmanager from windows =)

    @airsoftguy85rocks Yeah, just look up Core i9. Though I highly doubt you’re going to find much use out of it unless you do some hardcore video editing or encoding.

    Future proofing is fairy tale mates! They’ll keep reaching after yr pockets every year!

    Games use GPU maily and NOT the CPU as much after .all

    Intel E8400 coupled with a good GPU is no less performer than a Core i7 Extreme edition

    Make the choice on what CPU to choose on what you use your PC for as a whole….not just gaming…if all you use it for is gaming then dual core is currently the best option, but if you use your PC for lots of different things, especially if you do multiple things at once, then quad core may be the way to go…
