no, IRS does not send you emails, they don’t call you, they will send you a letter if they need to notify you

This sounds a bit fishy. The IRS doesn’t usually do things like that. Was this a letter or an email? If a letter, then it might be legit. If an email… BEWARE. Using the IRS name is very common in phishing. And if this message want on to say something like "just send us your bank account information (or social security number) so that we can direct deposit your refund"… DON’T. It’s a phishing expedition, and if you send them information, your bank account will be cleaned out, you will be a victim of identy theft, and your life will be miserable from now until the end of days.

Besides, if it’s legit, the IRS will just send you a check. Nothing needed from you.

It is a SCAM.

The IRS does not contact taxpayers via email.

These phishing emails are very common during tax season.

On the surface it seems like good news. But it also sounds like it could be a phishing scam trying to get your social security number and personal info. The IRS typically sends most communications via snail mail. If this is an email I would very, very carefully inspect the url it sends you to and not give any personal information.
