Best Operating System?

Author: Administrator | Files under Operating Systems

http://live.pirillo.com/ – Daimon asks “I have only recently run into your website after watching a few YouTube videos. You have a lot of experience it seems with operating systems for PC’s and Mac. What do you look for in an Operating System? What type of User Interface do you prefer looking at a standard Desktop of Linux Beryl?”

Chris looks for a variety of things in an operating system.

    1. Arch Linux ( …
    1. Arch Linux (multimedia) or FreeBSD, it”s a tie.
    2. MicroXP (exclusively for games – got mah Rocket Dock all tweaked and shit, l33t style & a black theme)

    Also TinyXP in VIrtual Box from time to time, from inside Arch Linux (to sync my iPod touch and use various Windows-only programs). Linux is the if you have the guts to learn it. Spending half an hour before bedtime is pretty much all you need. In month you”ll learn a lot. The documentation is very good. And then there”s the forum.

    @iron888888 Depends …
    @iron888888 Depends on the situation, I run a file, backp, torrent server on a Pentium 100Mhz with 128Mb RAM. It”s a headless server. Windows 7 is totally Not appropriate here but Linux fits very well and runs using minimal resources. Windows is not always the answer, neither is Linux. Fanboys like you don”t realise this and reach for your favourite every time even though an alternative may do the job better.

    @MetalShreader
    Dos dosen”t get viruses unless you deliberately want a virus. Even then, most viruses are nice and don”t delete your entire computer for no reason and breaks everything and rips your cpu apart

    @iron888888 …
    @iron888888 HAHAHHAHAHAHAAAAA!!!!!! Windows 7 my arse. Windows 7 is the biggest balls up to come out of Redmond since Win 2000. My tweaked Vista Ultimate x64 would wipe the floor with your Win7. Guarunteed. Windows 7”s UI is a total disaster, it feels like a Mac. I might as well use a Mac instead of 7. Before you comment this that and the other, Yes I TRIED to use 7 and hated it. I also beta”d it BEFORE public release back when you had to download a tool to unlock the “SuperBar”.

    Gentoo is the best …
    Gentoo is the best distribution out there !
    You decide every thing ! – what kernel to install what packages you have on your system.
    ALL the installation are specifically complied for YOUR specific chipset!
    After the installation you will have the best/most compatible OS for your SPECIFIC system!

    Gentoo is all about performance.
    The performance is unbelievable …there is no other OS like it!
