http://live.pirillo.com – After seeing my video where I installed Ubuntu on the computer I’m giving away to a lucky YouTube subscriber, Matt sent me a video showing how you can install Ubuntu onto Windows without overwriting your Windows Operating System.

    @zloadesf well good …
    @zloadesf well good point but i dont think it could handle newer operating systems honestly i think i would put windows xp service pack 3 on it and be done you could even put a new intel i7 proc. and 4 gigs of ram one terabyte hard drive and make a badass gaming system out of it i did it with my grandads old Hewlett Packard and it did great and it still works good and plays all kinds of games i look at it like if the break fix em and use them some more but your computer is old obviously

    @zloadesf Yeah, do …
    @zloadesf Yeah, do that. Install Ubuntu 10.04 (not 10.10, because 10.04 is better).
    You can install it as a standard EXE file, not a Live CD image.

    @ …
    @dontmesswiththeryhan Or look into what you install before you install. GRUB is a bootloader, if you already have one that you want to use then DON’T install a new one, its that simple. And even then grub will recognize windows and let you boot that if you need to. I too have had problems with WUBI but in this case PEBKAC

    STOP!

    Before you …
    STOP!

    Before you go ahead with wubi listen to what happened to me.

    I installed Ubuntu using wubi so as to not mess about with partitions and so on. While in ubuntu an update for “GRUB” came up and was recomended.

    So I went ahead with this. The result?

    The Grub update overwrote my windows bootloader… This gave me the GRUB RECOVERY> Comand screen.

    Wubi is not 100% safe… make sure you have a back up of your current OS and files if you must do this.

    Otherwise just stick to windows or mac.
