When connecting to the Internet, there are several choices available to you. Each has benefits and disadvantages. First, you have the option of going with dial-up Internet. Dial-up Internet uses a telephone line to connect to the Internet. While the lines were not necessary created to connect to the Internet signals, it is still strong enough to permit the more complex Internet signals to pass through. The advantages of using dial-up is that it is perhaps what you are more comfortable with it. To you, using your own telephone line makes you feel safer when transmitting your personal information online. Or perhaps you believe that it will require less maintenance. All you need to buy is a modem that works to change the signals into a form that can be transmitted through the telephone line. The disadvantages to dial-up Internet are the speed and lack of dependability. Since the lines were not designed to handle the more complex signals of the Internet, your connection will be very slow. Downloading on certain sites or uploading your own photos may take forever. That can be very frustrating. Secondly, since the signals are more complex and because your telephone line will continue to want to receive phone calls, you will experience dropped connections periodically. They will be random, yet to you it will seem like they come at exactly the wrong time.

Second, you have the option of high speed Internet at home, which comes in two forms. You can go with DSL cable or satellite Internet. The DSL cable is a broadband Internet cable that many cities are installing with more frequency. They provide you with dependable connection and extremely high speeds, the fastest connection available for both downloading and uploading. Dial-up Internet does not even come close. The disadvantage to DSL cable is that it is not always available. In fact, while big cities are moving towards DSL cables, many cities and nearly all rural areas are still without this option. The second way to get high speed Internet at home is through satellite broadband. The Internet provider will set up a satellite dish on your roof, which will then connect you to the Internet from home. The advantages to this option is the high speeds, dependability, and availability. You will get the same high downloading speeds as DSL cable and nearly as fast for uploading. Both will be much faster that dial-up. You will also have the same dependability as DSL cable which you lack with dial-up. Finally, satellite Internet is available just about anywhere in the world. Since the signal comes from a satellite orbiting the earth in space, satellite Internet is available no matter where you live. You don’t have to live in select cities in order to enjoy satellite broadband.

Finally, you can go with wireless Internet. Wireless Internet is available in cell phones, homes, cafes, hotels, and an almost unlimited number of locations wherever a network is established. You can also connect your laptop to wireless Internet on the go with 4G Internet.  Wireless Internet does not always give you high speeds, but 4G will. The dependability will also vary, depending on the network signal strength. While café hotspots are known to be undependable, 4G technology gives you high speed Internet that is dependable and accessible wherever you are. The availability is limited to those areas with Internet hotspots. You also must rely on asking for passwords to log into the networks and certain places may require you to be However, if you have 4G or wireless Internet on your cell phone, there is no limit.
